President’s Message: We are well into...
... the new 2023 year. Although it may be hard to tell which season we are in with the strange weather we’ve been experiencing, the calendar is pointing at the early part of Spring. I think most of us are looking forward to that time of nature’s renewal. Here at the church, we are busy making plans for not only the Spring, but also further down the road as the quiet of the early part of the year is mostly behind us. It was nice to have a fun and popular Fastelavn to close out this early period.
On the horizon are the important events like our AGM, Easter services, Royal Dinner, a Spring Concert and even planning for the next bazaar. You should know by now that all these events are publicized in this newsletter, on our website, on email blasts and on Facebook. Make sure you check these places for the details. In addition to the regular weekly activities, we also have other activities on the go. Our Danish lessons have been a great hit. The viewership of Badehotellet has dropped, but those attending are enjoying the story. We are still anxious to hear of other new ideas for events – especially if they involve new and different cultural aspects.
This year’s AGM is important as we need to update regarding a new Program Coordinator, exterior landscaping and signage, as well as an extended focus on new cultural events related to the various communities we serve. Our special dinners are usually a sell-out, so make sure you sign up in good time for the Royal Dinner. Our church is a member of the Federation of Danish Associations in Canada. Their annual conference and seminar will be held in Nanaimo, BC this year – the first one in the last three years. Since our church will be the host of the 2024 Conference, you may want to check this out.
The main comment here is that we need participation to help keep our church alive and well. The Board and I are absolutely grateful for those who are currently doing this. We also appreciate the financial support we receive, and those of us who show up on Sundays, or visit during the week, or take part in our special events – all have a grand time. But we need and are looking for new participants and new ideas to attract same. It is difficult these days with so many other options competing for your time. However, we need to do things differently to expect a different result, and to think outside of the box to help us to get there. Your participation and sharing of ideas are how this can be done. The ball is now in your court – what are you going to do?
My personal focus is to make 2023 the year of change. I hope you will join me to help make this happen. We are a church AND a cultural centre. Let’s open our doors to everyone.
Happy Easter!!
