Pastoral Care
Talk to Your Pastor
Pastoral care is an essential part of a pastor's duties.
Although it may sound like it’s only about grief, it encompasses much more. The term comes from the German word “Seelsorge,” meaning “care for the soul,” and it represents the pastor's compassion and support for each individual in the congregation.
The conversation typically takes place with me at the church, or I can come to your home or to the hospital.
These conversations are very open-ended. They can naturally cover questions of faith, but they can just as easily address other issues, such as doubt, guilt, divorce, unemployment, despair, or anything else.
My role as a pastor is to listen and accompany someone along a difficult path.
Sometimes I might share a line from the Bible or literature, or suggest that we say the Lord’s Prayer together. There is nothing too big or too small for a confidential conversation. I don’t take notes or keep records, and I have a 100% duty of confidentiality.
