Enriching visit from Danish Bishop
As part of DSUK (Danish Churches Abroad), the Danish Church of Toronto has a bishop in Denmark. The current Bishop, Marianne Gaarden, visited Toronto last week with her husband Michael Schelde as part of her tour of all five Danish churches in Canada. In Toronto, she met many from the congregation and the church board, who told about the renovation plans, and she attended Pastor Simon's service.
A meeting with the Danish ambassador to Canada, Hanne Fugl Eskjær, was held via Zoom, and later the Bishop met with Pia Primdal Chau and Helene Scherling Olsen from the Danish consulate in Toronto, who told about Denmark's and the Danes' relations with Canada.
Marianne Gaarden also met with her Canadian colleague Bishop Michael Pyres in Kitchener and visited the Danish Urn Cemetery, Sunset Mindepark, where she was shown around by Lis and Søren Søndergaard.
The church being part of DSUK is a crucial way to keep the connection to Denmark strong, and therefore visits by bishops and other representatives from Denmark are essential.
From Toronto, Marianne Gaarden and her husband continued on to Alberta and Britsh Colombia to visit the Danish congregations in the western part of Canada.
