Ready for the next episodes of the church?
More and more of the TV we watch are series with episodes and seasons. Some patiently wait a week for the next episode of their favourite program to be aired; others take the iPad, phone or computer and watch all the programs in a row on demand.
This summer, I discovered "Kim's Convenience" on Netflix - a sitcom from CBC about a Korean migrant family in Toronto. The show that tells the story of migrants in our wonderful city is hilarious on many levels. The local church (and "The Jesus") play an essential role in the show as a place for networking, fellowship and worship among the migrants. In many ways, I think Danish migrants in Toronto (and me, your Danish pastor) can recognize themselves in the show and how to live in multicultural Toronto.
A new season for our Danish church starts again in September, with new episodes every week when the doors open for Sunday services. During the weekdays, there are extra episodes for those who want more: Church Café, Folk dancing, Golden Age Club, Movie Saturdays, bible study - and more. Add to that baptisms, confirmation classes, weddings and funerals, and you have the complete package.
One of the (ongoing) essential questions for our Danish church is to decide what kind of activities we have to carry out. Just like TV shows, the church is obligated to be relevant to the people using it and wanting to be a part of our fellowship. You are invited to tell us what you want and think and to be involved in your church. The Board and the Pastor are listening (see pg.8)
When a TV show is at its best, it shares stories about relations, and you can mirror your life in the show. The same goes for the stories in the bible - the core story of the church - and your life. Tune in on Sundays at 10:30 AM (either in person or some Sundays also online) and be a part of the fellowship and get new inspiration for your life - whether you have been here before or whether you are new to our church - everyone is welcome!
