AGM approves sanctuary upgrade
Spring has finally sprung, but due to the current Stay-at-Home order issued by the provincial government, many of us are missing out on the joy and comfort and sense of replenishment that Spring usually brings. However, if we are careful and follow the standard health protocols, hopefully some yard work at home, or a walk around the block, or even a stroll through a park will lift our spirits and help set our minds at ease. If we are patient and careful, and get our vaccinations as soon as we are allowed to, then the joy of meeting again at the church for services or other activities with friends and family will hopefully happen sooner than later.
We were lucky to be able to have a special Covid restricted Easter service – actually two services that beautiful Sunday – and even though we were not many, it was nice to see happy and smiling faces enjoying the music and hymns as well as Simon’s readings and sermon. Since then and until further notice, we will have to rely on our “old faithful” format of Sunday Service videos and Zoom meetings to keep us in contact with each other. Despite the frustration and perhaps difficulty that may cause, we certainly are grateful to have that ability.
As most people are aware, we had to postpone our May 8 Bazaar pick-up day to now be Saturday, June 5 and we hope there won’t be any changes to that date. Our on-line shopping link is now open again, but best to check the website for the latest information. We are glad that we can reach out to you this way, and appreciate the support you have shown with both participation and donations. This type of support is important and needed especially during Covid restrictions, and we hope you will continue.
Our AGM was held on Zoom on Saturday, April 24, and we are grateful for the members that participated. The meeting went well with reports from all the usual contributors to bring you up to date on all church aspects including finance, maintenance, activities, etc. The proposal to approve the sanctuary upgrade plans as previously presented by the board and planning committee, was overwhelmingly approved. It was good to see strong support for a large and important church project. As well, the list of candidates for board positions was also accepted as presented.
The Verner Norgaard Trust was introduced and explained at the AGM. Guidelines are currently being worked out and details will soon be announced setting out how you will be able to apply for assistance based on a need for post-secondary scholarships, honoraria for writers of histories or biographies of Danish people, financial support for persons in need, or assistance with arrangements for meetings or activities for Danish seniors, or any other such events as to benefit Danes in Ontario. The church board will be the sole arbiter for approval of these applications.
Our church is alive and well thanks to everyone’s support and participation. Together we can make a difference for us all to enjoy the benefits of these efforts. Best wishes for a happy and safe start of summer.
Hilsen - Sune Overgaard.
